Euro-map is a radical new plan for the European Union, one in which the old borders have been replaced by an administrative system that distances politics as administration from culture. This enables us to look beyond the divisive politics of the past and towards a collective future. National boundaries have been replaced by a hexagonal grid, centred on the geographical heart of the EU, making sure that everyone’s voice and culture are placed on an equal footing and no-one is too far from their centre of government. The hexagon form was chosen because it allows equal contact with the greatest number of neighbouring regions and because it is a natural structure that is both rational and organic. It is found in the structure of carbon bonds and the cells of bees, suggesting strength, organisation, and community. This redrawing of the map of the current EU is based on an equilateral hexagon with sides 300km long. This is centred on the town of Lübben (Spreewald), which is the urban development nearest to the geographical centre of the EU (the limits were taken from the main land area of the Union). The hexagon grid was expanded from this town, which will be the new Administrative Centre of the European Union, with the nearest urban development to the centre of each hexagon forming the Administrative Centre of each new Administrative Region. This geographical realignment is apolitical in that it doesn’t advocate any particular system of government, all citizens of the Union should solve the question of whether and how votes should be allocated to Administrative Regions. The main aim is to break the link between political administration and cultural and ethnic groupings (especially with the disenfranchisement of minority groups in the states now forming the EU). Any current state wishing to join the European Union will be realigned into the hexagon structure of Administrative Regions; this could result in the moving of Regional Administrative Centres.
